The author is a natural person who has created his creative work product. 

According to the Civil Code of Ukraine, the objects of copyright are:

1 ) literary and artistic works , such as:

- novels, poems, articles and other writings;
- lectures, speeches, sermons and other oral works ;
- dramatic, musical and dramatic works, pantomimes, dance and other theatrical works ;
- musical work (with or without text ) ;
- audiovisual works;
- painting, architecture , sculpture, and graphics;
- photographic works ;
- works of applied art ;
- illustrations, maps , plans, sketches and three-dimensional works relating to geography, topography , architecture or science;
- translations, adaptations, arrangements and other alterations of literary or artistic works;
- collections of works, if the selection or arrangement of their constituent parts is the result of intellectual activity;

2 ) computer programs ;

3 ) compilations of data (databases ), if the selection or arrangement of their constituent parts are the result of intellectual activity;

4 ) other works .

Copyright cannot be applied to ideas, procedures, methods of operation or mathematical concepts as such.

The following is not subject of copyright:

1) acts of state authorities and local self-government (laws, decrees, regulations , decisions , etc.), as well as their official translations;

2 ) State symbols of Ukraine , banknotes , posters , etc. , approved by the public authorities ;

3) daily news or other facts that constitute regular press information;

4) other works by the law.

Copyright arises from the moment of its creation. The person who owns the copyright can use the special character established by law to notify about his rights.

According to legislation copyright registration as well as registration of agreements relating to the author's right are not mandatory, but it has some advantages , such as :

- Is further proof of your authorship ;
